Exhibition tangible fashion Michelangelo Winklaar in Museum Escher in Het Paleis

14 October 2021 until 9 January 2022


In honor of The Fashionweek, Escher in Het Paleis organizes an exhibition with Touchable Fashion of the Dutch-Curacaoan designer Michelangelo Winklaar.

Inspired by his visually impaired mother, Winklaar is developing an experimental exhibition in which he will in which he allows blind and visually impaired people to experience a fashion collection by touch. While a fashion collection in a museum should not be touched, Winklaar invites the public to use their sense of touch. invites the public to use their sense of touch. His collection is not only meant to be looked at, but also to be felt. 


Characteristic for Winklaar's work are the feminine forms, texture and the use of craftsmanship and handicraft. craft and handicraft. Sustainability is also important to him, as he likes to use material that is considered residual material from the textile industry.

For this exhibition Winklaar is was inspired by M.C. Escher and the Lange Voorhout Palace, where the museum is located.

The exhibition is in line with the mission of Escher in Het Paleis to be actively inclusive target groups that may be less inclined to visit a museum. Not only visitors who are blind or visually impaired will be able to enjoy Winkler's collection, sighted visitors will also have the opportunity to see fashion in a more meaningful way. visitors will have the opportunity to discover fashion in a whole new way.
